Despite a late goal from Tom Lees, the Terriers were beaten 3-1 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium by Reading after falling two behind in the first half.

An encouraging start to the game and controlled second half performance were cancelled out by three defensive errors that lead to a goal from a set play, an own goal and a tap-in into an open goal for the hosts, which made it a frustrating afternoon in Mark Fotheringham’s first match in charge.

With both Jon Russell and Sorba Thomas stepping back into the starting side, it was an attacking line-up from Town and it was clear that the intention was to pour forward using the flanks as much as possible.

However, with that emphasis on attack, Reading were able to find space in behind Town’s back line with direct play and longer passes over the top, which put the defence under stress on numerous occasions.

Town’s control of the game in the second half gives the side a performance to build on with new Head Coach Mark Fotheringham going forward, and they have another chance to put some points on the board on Tuesday evening as we travel to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town.
