Town put in a clinical, professional performance at Edgeley Park against Stockport County, scoring twice in each half against last season’s Sky Bet League Two Play-Off finalists!
Setting the tone for the game, Danny Ward recreated his memorable and all-important finish against Sheffield United, bending one in from the right-hand channel outside of the box with his left boot in to the opposite bottom corner.
Just as the game had settled Josh Koroma found the back of the net, just moments after hitting one wide. Recovering quickly, Danny Ward provided him the ball in space to drive into the left hand side of the box, cutting in quickly before firing convincingly into the near bottom corner.
Just before the hour mark, Town completed a similar trick, with Jack Rudoni this time the beneficiary with Koroma turning provider. A drive forward from Kasumu ended with the ball falling to Koroma who flicked it around the corner into space first time, with Rudoni rushing onto it, charging into the box and firing home with confidence.
Town saved their most eye-catching move and goal for last, with Loick Ayina turning a Stockport cross into a break, holding off an attacker to turn in his own box after intercepting possession, before firing a ball into Brahima Diarra’s feet on the swivel.
Diarra then left three men in his wake as he surged into the attacking half, laying off a deft through ball to the awaiting Kyle Hudlin who had held his run perfectly off the shoulder of the last man. Taking a touch or two to settle himself, Hudlin then calmy passed the ball into the near corner past former Terrier Jordan Smith, who had come on as a substitute for the home side.
An entertaining and useful afternoon for Town, you can watch the full highlights via HTTV on YouTube below!
