Karlan Grant admitted that Huddersfield Town made the game harder for itself after going behind 15 seconds into the Premier League game.
Town fell to a 5-0 defeat at Anfield and fell behind following a low strike from Naby Keita.
When speaking to #HTTV after the game, Karlan detailed how difficult the game was after the bad start.
“It made the game a lot harder, straight away we were on the back foot. It was soppy. It’s a tough one, you don’t want to blame anyone, but we knew they were a high pressing team.
“We should’ve eased ourselves into the game and gone long. We made it hard for ourselves and we were 1-0 down already.
“It was difficult for Jon (Stanković) because the ball came to him and he didn’t know what was around him. We aren’t going to put the blame on him because it’s difficult.
“They are a top-quality side, they press high, they’ve been doing it all year. It was difficult, but we had to get around him.”
Following the opening game, Town had a good spell and created some chances. However, the young striker bemoaned the side’s clinical nature.
“We had a good little spell, got down their side quite well, but we couldn’t get that killer instinct; that shot on target.
“We had a few corners we couldn’t capitalise on and that should’ve given us more confidence, but we kind of went back on the back foot again, which is always difficult.
“We created some chances, but they didn’t fall well, or we weren’t ruthless enough; it’s belief really and I think we’ve lacked that all season. It’s tough.”
At the end of the game, all the Huddersfield Town players went over to the travelling supporters to applaud them for the fantastic atmosphere they created.
“Genuinely, the fans are outstanding, you know.
“Going over there and clapping them, I know it’s tough for them because they come all this way to support us.
“At the end, I gave one of the supporters my shirt because I felt like I needed to. They’ve been brilliant.”
