Mathias Zanka was keen to stress how a positive mindset is key for Huddersfield Town going into this weekend’s Premier League game against Southampton.

Despite a string of good performances, Town comes into the game off the back of four defeats.

When speaking to #HTTV prior to this weekend’s game, the Denmark international explained that the spirits are still high in the dressing room.

“Right now, of course, is a challenging time for us and the supporters, but the only thing we can and have to do is keep believing.

“Keep waiting, believing and working hard for that moment for when it all turns, and when it does, we have to make the most of it.

“Our togetherness is one of the things, this club and this team, the last few years, has prided itself on because we are different in that aspect of the game and now, we have to show it.

“We have to show we can use that to our advantage.”

The 28-year-old had his first taste of Christmas football last season and thinks this period could be crucial for the Terriers.

“The Christmas period is really important because games come in quick succession.

“We have to keep a positive mindset because the period will be tough with a lot of minutes made

“The entire squad, with the injuries we have at the minute, will probably be involved and we need everyone at their best.

“It reminds me of periods I’ve had in European football when you play in every third day, when you’re playing in the Champions League or Europa League.

“It’s exciting and all about football in the next few weeks. It’s great to be a part of.”

Ralph Hasenhüttl has been in charge of the Saints for two games; losing to Cardiff City and beating Arsenal.

Zanka explained how a new manager could affect the Southampton players.

“There’s pros and cons (of playing against a team with a new manager), definitely, those wanting to prove themselves and showing that they want to be in the starting XI, but as well they may not be fully in with the tactics or be 100% set or disciplined in the new style.”
