PUNDIT’S VIEW ON WATFORD

14 January 2021

Ryan Gray gave the lowdown on Watford

- Expert’s view on Watford
- Details what has changed under Javier Muñoz
- Gain an understanding on Watford’s excellent home form

Watford reporter Ryan Gray gave his thoughts on the Hornets ahead of Huddersfield Town’s visit to Vicarage Road!

What has changed since the appointment of Xisco Muñoz in terms of shape and style?

The team has more or less stuck to the 4-4-2 it was playing with Vladimir Ivić in charge, but they’re pushed further up the pitch and look more of an attacking threat.

Will Huddersfield Town see a completely different Watford?

When the two sides last met Watford were in a bit of trouble. Huddersfield Town will certainly find a side much more united and I think it’ll be a tougher match than last time.

Watford’s home form is the best in the league, why is that?

They’re very difficult to break down at the back. There’s still room for improvement at the other end of the pitch, but at Vicarage Road teams are struggling to get past their defenders.

After watching the game earlier this season, how do you think Town could hurt Watford in this one?

I was very impressed with the way they put pressure on the defenders and forced errors. If they could do that again, there’s no reason they couldn’t cause them problems.

Where do you see the key battles in this game?

The wings are where Watford are looking most threatening at the moment, especially with new signing Philip Zinckernagel and Ismaïla Sarr improving already under Muñoz. I think that could be where the game is won or lost.
