Mathias Zanka explained how the Club’s four-day training camp was the perfect way for Jan Siewert to get his ideas across to the Huddersfield Town players.
Upon being appointed as Town’s Head Coach, Jan Siewert took his players to Portugal for an intense training camp where he could teach them his style, whilst also get to know them on a more personal level.
Mathias Zanka went into depth about that new style and how it fits with the current squad.
“Warm weather training is always a good thing and we’ve come back here, and the sun is shining; it was good to have extra time on the training pitch to get Jan’s ideas and philosophies under our skin.
“He has a different style of play to what we were used to, it’s a bit more attacking, focusing on attacking and scoring goals.
“That has been our problem this season, so it’s good to be working on that side of the game.
“I think the style is quite natural in the way a lot of us think about football, but we need to get on the same page and get his ideas under the skin.
“It’s going to take some time, but we are very committed and want to keep learning it as fast as we can.”
When speaking to #HTTV, Zanka went into detail about what kind of Head Coach Jan Siewert is.
“He is intense and has a very clear view on how he wants to play football. He’s modern as a coach and has a lot of traits of a modern coach; he’s enthusiastic.
“He’s hands-on, he knows how he wants people to act, so that’s what we need to understand as soon as possible.”
Town currently sits bottom of the Premier League table, but the defender explained how the players aren’t looking at the table, they’re only looking at the upcoming game.
“He’s told us to take it one game at a time, focus on scoring goals and then go onto the next one.
“We, of course, aren’t delusional, we know our position and know we need to go out there focusing on performance and result.
“We have to focus on our performances and ourselves, not everything else around us or the table.”
