Huddersfield Town Under-17 defender Taylor Annakin is focused on development as the 2018/19 season progresses.

The youngster joined the Terriers in the summer from Barnsley and explained how he can see his own game improving.

“I feel I’ve settled in quite well. I was at Barnsley last season and then I’ve moved here, and I feel the move has helped me improve as a player.

“Since moving here, I’ve had to live in accommodation away from home, which was a new experience for me.”

The youngster has made 28 appearances for the Under-17s so far this season (24 starts) and he detailed how his first year at the Club has gone.

“At the start of the season, I wasn’t really in the starting team. I was playing now and again, playing right back.

“But since I’ve started to play more regularly, I’ve been playing in midfield which I’ve enjoyed.

“I’ve also been involved with the U19s, so I think it’s been going well so far.

“I also hope I can get my name on the team sheet for the U19s and be involved with them a bit more,” said Annakin.

Taylor has made three appearances for Dean Whitehead’s Under-19s and he believes that has furthered his development.

“It’s given me more confidence. Like when I come back to play for the U17s, I have more confidence because I’ve been to play with the U19s.

“It’s harder when I play for the U19s, it’s quicker and more physical, you have to be more switched on, but I think it’s helped me.”

Since joining the Town Academy, Annakin has played at both right-back and in the middle of midfield.

He detailed what he has to work on in those roles and how he’s found the transition between them both.

“I can play in both positions. I do enjoy playing in midfield more, I like tackling and just being able to be involved in the game a bit more.

“If I’m asked to play at right back, I obviously will, so that I can help the team. Whatever the coach asks of me, I’ll do.

“I enjoy getting forward, but I feel that this is somewhere that I do need to improve.

“I’ve also been working on aspects of my game in midfield like back foot turns, scanning - so I can see what options I’ve got when making a pass, different types of passing and reactive pressure.”

Annakin and Town’s Under-17s are back in Youth Alliance League action on Saturday 13 April 2019.

The Young Terriers will face Grimsby Town at PPG Canalside in the game that will kick-off at 11am. Supporters can attend the game for FREE.
