Hosting another successful event, the Club's growing Women's+ Network welcomed Deborah Theabould-Ho as last week's special guest to discuss the hard work being done by the Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership.

Providing a safe space for discussion and an overall informative evening, the session highlighted the important work being done by the PDAP within our local community and shone a light on how they are helping those who need support during a difficult time.

Founded in 2002, the Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership has been delivering a range of services and supporting individuals across Kirklees for over 20 years. As a result of Huddersfield Women’s Aid and the Kirklees Asian and Black Women’s Welfare Association merging, the PDAP provides high-quality specialist support, advice, information, and safe accommodation for anyone affected by or experiencing domestic abuse.

Inspired by author Ros Jones, who spoke about domestic abuse at the Club’s second Inclusion and Empowerment Conference in October 2023, the Club felt it was vital to support organisations such as PDAP in breaking down taboos associated with abuse, and offering an educational session to members of our Women's+ Network was a natural place to start.  Raising awareness of domestic abuse and the help, advice and support available forms part of our ‘Terriers Together’ equality, diversity, and inclusion work.

After another successful meeting, one attendee commented:

“I really appreciate having the opportunity to attend this session.  Deborah’s presentation was clear and informative, and I feel better placed to support others who may be experiencing domestic abuse and to signpost them to agencies like the Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership who can help.”

Another attendee said:

“Huddersfield Town’s Women’s+ Network is a great forum to meet and connect with other people, and to experience a different side of a football club.  This was my first meeting and I’m already looking forward to the next one.”

Huddersfield Town HR Manager and EDI Lead, Zoe Shackleton, added:

“We are grateful to Deborah for taking the time to meet with our Women’s+ Network members and to provide invaluable information on the subject of domestic abuse.  We pride ourselves on the Club being a safe place for everyone and this definitely came across in the meeting, as attendees felt able to ask questions and to share their thoughts in a supportive environment.  The more we can to do talk about and reduce any stigma associated with domestic abuse, the better, to help improve people’s lives and potentially save lives.”
