THREE TERRIERS PLAY FOR THEIR COUNTRIES IN THE BREAK

27 March 2024

Spencer, Diarra, and Jones all get match action

- A round-up of our players in international action in this break
- Brodie Spencer plays 180 minutes for Northern Ireland
- Brahima Diarra and Pat Jones also feature for their sides

Three Huddersfield Town players got minutes for their nations during the current international break, with First Team defender Brodie Spencer leading the way!

Town had a total of seven players away with their nations over the last fortnight, and three got minutes on the pitch for their respective nations in competitive games or friendlies.

Here’s a round-up of all the action:

Brodie Spencer – Northern Ireland

Brodie played the full 90 minutes in both of Northern Ireland’s friendlies over the last week, taking his number of senior caps to five.

Having played the full game during a highly creditable 1-1 draw with Romania on Friday, the 19-year-old continued at left wing back as his nation took on Scotland on Monday.

Northern Ireland won the home nations contest 1-0, and Brodie played a role in the winning goal; it was his forward run that took his side forward and then he teamed up with eventual goalscorer Conor Bradley to win the ball back high up the pitch.

Brahima Diarra – Mali Under-23s

Brahima made an impact as a substitute in his latest cap for the Mali Under-23 side.

He started on the bench for their away game in Japan, but came on during the second half and put in a brilliant run and cross to get the assist for Mali’s third goal in their impressive 3-1 victory!

Check out the highlights of the game, including Brahima’s assist, below.

Pat Jones – Wales Under-21s

Pat gained another two caps for the Wales Under-21 side during the break.

He started their most important game, playing 75 minutes in their 2-1 European Championship qualifying win at home to Lithuania. That keeps Wales second in their group, only behind Denmark on goal difference.

Wales then faced the Morocco Under-23 side in a friendly and Pat played the final 15 minutes as a substitute.

Loick Ayina – Congo

Loick, who is currently on loan in Scotland with Ross County, was named as a substitute on the bench for the Congo national team during their 1-1 friendly draw with Gabon - however, he is yet to earn his first cap for the national side.

Radinio Balker – Suriname

Radinio went away with the Suriname national team during the first week of the break and was on the bench for their 1-1 friendly draw against Martinique on Sunday.

Giosue Bellagambi – Uganda

B Team goalkeeper Gio didn’t add to his one cap for Uganda during this break, as he was an unused substitute for their loss against Comoros and their 2-2 home draw with Ghana.

Shane Maroodza – Zimbabwe

This was B Team defender Shane’s first time away with the Zimbabwe national team, and he was an unused substitute for their 3-2 defeat in Kenya and their 2-2 draw against Zambia, which they won after a penalty shootout.

Following the international break, Town return to the John Smith's Stadium on Friday 29 March to face Coventry City! CLICK HERE to secure your seat in HD1.
