Today marks World Encephalitis Day, an awareness campaign arranged by Encephalitis International to increase knowledge of encephalitis in the hope that lives can be saved.
Having lost our colleague Eleanor Haigh to the infection, we have learned first hand how cruel and unforgiving it can be, and hope that joining in the awareness effort will help potentially save the lives of those who may be impacted in the future.
As part of the campaign, various buildings of note will be illuminating themselves red to help raise awareness, which the Club will take part in by lighting the Millers Oils High Performance Complex red for a number of hours this evening.

- Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain
- It is caused either by an infection or through the immune system attacking the brain in error
- Anyone can be affected by encephalitis, irrespective of age, sex or ethnicity
-Encephalitis can lead to death and survivors are often left with an acquired brain injury and life-changing consequences
- Early recognition and treatment can save lives and improve patient outcomes
