Huddersfield Town B end Premier League Cup campaign with 4-2 defeat to Fleetwood Town
- Fleetwood Town 4-2 Huddersfield Town B
- Goals from Cian Philpott and Danny Isaac
- B Team eliminated from Premier League Cup
A loss on the road at Fleetwood Town ended the B Team’s campaign in the Premier League Cup for another season, despite goals from Cian Philpott and Danny Isaac in the second half.
Essentially a straight shootout between the sides to qualify from the group, Town went into the game knowing a win would likely present them an away tie with Tottenham Hotspur in the next round of the competition.
Overseen by Academy Head of Coaching George Danaher and Academy Coach Oran Thompson in the absence of Kevin Russell and Michael Tonge - both of whom are assisting Academy Manager Jon Worthington with our First Team - the Terriers were a goal down heading into the break, with the hosts adding a second shortly after.
Halving their arrears through Cian Philpott from the spot, the home side struck again before 17-year-old substitute Danny Isaac got himself on the scoresheet, making it 3-2 entering the final stages. Opening up in search of an equaliser, the Young Terriers were caught again before full-time, with the home side qualifying for the knockout rounds on the back of their 4-2 win.
An unfortunate end to another season in the Premier League Cup, it’s been a transitional season at that level for the Club, with Jon Worthington’s focus moving to his Academy Manager role and Kevin Russell introduced to the technical staff to oversee the coaching at that level. Promoting several players to First Team level and with others out on loan, the side has also changed significantly this season, by design.
