Win over Guinea secures third place in U23 AFCON

- Brahima Diarra & Mali qualify for Olympic games
- Penalty shootout win over Guinea secures third in U23 AFCON
- Town man started his third straight game for sixth cap

Brahima Diarra and the Mali Under-23 side are heading to the 2024 Olympic Games!

The Town midfielder, who turned 20 earlier this week, started his third straight game for his nation as they secured third place in the 2023 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations via a penalty shootout win over Guinea in Morocco on Friday evening.

Diarra, who was earning his sixth cap at this level, played the first hour of what was a scrappy game before being withdrawn with the game goalless, but his teammates managed to win via penalties to gain a bronze medal in the prestigious tournament.

It’s been a very successful month for Diarra, who will now head back to England to prepare for the new Sky Bet Championship season under Neil Warnock.
