Two pupils from St Thomas Primary School were surprised by Town winger Sorba Thomas as part of the Huddersfield Town Foundation’s Christmas Appeal.

Back in November, manager Darren Moore visited St Thomas’ Breakfast Club as part of the EFL’s Week of Action, which allows all 72 Clubs and their charitable arms to showcase the work they do in their communities.

Whilst there, Moore took a shine to one young person in particular: Romeo, who in the end made Moore a slice of toast. The Town boss asked him who his favourite player was, which Romeo replied was Sorba Thomas.

Romeo left a big impression on Moore during that morning, and vice versa, as the youngster gained a role model to look up to.

This gave the Foundation the idea to invite Romeo and his friend Rahiem to not only meet Moore again but also provide them with a huge surprise.

Upon their arrival, Romeo and Rahiem took a tour of the training ground, in particular having a lot of fun in the players’ longue, as well as answering questions in a mock press conference in the media room.

The young people then ventured over to the First Team building where they had a nosy around the dressing room and boot room, which is where they bumped into Town’s ‘number one’, Lee Nicholls!

Romeo and Rahiem then made their way upstairs into the gym where Josh Ruffels and Kyle Hudlin, who is Rahiem’s favourite player, were there to chat with the boys whilst on the exercise bikes.

From there, Town boss Moore welcomed them into his office to catchup and he had a play around with the pair on his tactics board.

Thomas then appeared in the room to surprise Romeo and give him and Rahiem a special gift of a Town 2023/24 Home Shirt, which he signed personally for the boys.

Both Romeo and Rahiem were ecstatic to meet the winger, and it was an extremely wonderful moment as the pair gained another role model in their life – it was the perfect ending to a tremendous afternoon.

Town’s Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Siobhan Atkinson commented:

“It was great to bring Romeo and Rahiem down to Huddersfield Town’s Millers Oils High Performance Centre and give them both an opportunity that they will never forget.

“This is just one example of the many opportunities that the Foundation provides for the young people that we engage with across the community.

“The moment that they met their heroes was very heartwarming, and it makes the hard work that the Foundation does extremely worthwhile to see the smiles on people’s faces.”

Town’s Foundation has urged people to back their 2023 Christmas Appeal so that they can continue giving young people like Romeo and Rahiem experiences that they will never forget.
