29 September 2022

An 88th minute equaliser for Brighouse saw the points shared

- Brighouse Town Women 1-1 Huddersfield Town Women
- Laura Elford scored again from the spot
- Late goal from Brighouse Town cost Glen Preston's side all three points

Huddersfield Town Women could only take a point from this game despite dominating possession on a wet night in Brighouse.

After a fairly quiet opening few minutes, the game suddenly sprang to life in the 9th minute when Brighouse hit the Town crossbar 3 times in a minute.

Town then created a number of half chances but could not find the finish to break down the Brighouse defence.

In the 44th minute former Town player Lucy Sowerby then crashed a shot off the angle of the Town goal but once again, Town survived.

Town started the second half with more determination and went close two minutes in when Beth Ibbotson headed just wide.

With an hour gone, Town made a quick counter attack but Anderson’s shot was high and wide of the target. Just a minute later and this time Anderson poked the ball wide of the Brighouse goal.

It was captain Lauren Griffiths who the next Town player to fire over as the pressure built up on the Brighouse defence.

In the 68th minute, Laura Elford was taken down and a penalty was awarded. Elford finished powerfully, 0-1.

Brighouse then started to come into the game again and eventually, they got their equaliser with just two minutes remaining.

Brighouse had further half chances but, with the last kick off the game, Brittany Sanderson chipped the keeper and almost won it for Town as the ball went agonisingly wide of the Brighouse goal.
