Huddersfield Town Women through to quarter finals of FAWNL Cup

- Town Women progress in FA Women’s National League Cup
- Liverpool Feds next on Sunday 5 November 2023

A determined performance from Town Women secured their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s National League Cup against West Bromwich Albion.

Despite going behind in the 22nd minute, goals from Serena Fletcher and Feiruz Abdullahi brought Town back into the game in the first half. This was followed by two more Town goals in the second half as Aisha Nsangou scored and Abdullahi scored her brace, but West Brom didn’t make it easy as they scored two goals within two minutes in the final 10 minutes of the game and were looking to equalise.

After West Brom took the lead in the opening 25-minutes of the first half, Fletcher equalised for Town as she received the ball out on the left, cut back inside and fired the ball past the ‘keeper and into the top far corner of the net.

Then, on the stroke of half time, Abdullahi turned around the defender blocking her and fired the ball low into the back of the net.

Town’s Women started the second half as the first half had left off with their third goal coming in the 55th minute, as Nsangou knocked the ball home from close range to make it 1-3.

Less than five minutes later, Abdullahi got her brace after a great through ball was played and she was able to take it round the ‘keeper and quadruple the Terriers’ lead.

After a flurry of changes for both sides, West Brom scored their second and third goals in the 84th and 85th minute – putting pressure on Town.

With six minutes added at the end of the game, West Brom were throwing everything at Town as they tried to get back into the game, but Town stayed strong in defence and secured their place in the quarter-finals of the FAWNL Cup.

Town are back in action next Sunday (5 November) as they travel to play Liverpool Feds at Leisure United Jericho Lane (Otterspool Drive, Liverpool, L17 5AR).
