Head Coach Danny Schofield said that despite the defeat, his side showed real character when playing with ten men to get themselves back into the contest.

“I think there were a lot of positives, but we conceded two early goals which detrimental to us going forward.

“The lads fight in the second in the second half when we were down to ten men showed real character, real grit and real togetherness.

“That’s never a question with these players.

“We’ll take positives out of it, but at the end of the day we lost the game so we need to reflect on it and see how we can improve moving forward.”

Discussing the first half in more detail, Schofield said that the way his side managed transitions in the opening 15 minutes was the root cause of the two goals conceded.

“I think certain moments of quality and retaining the ball when we win the ball back.

“It’s always difficult against these teams to recover the ball, because Norwich are a high quality side with high quality players – but when we do recover the ball, we need to retain it better.

“One quick transition and you’re back on the back foot, and it saps your energy.

“The goals were something I felt we could’ve delt with – we wanted to force them into wide areas to defend from there rather than let them try and win the middle and I thought we did that, but we didn’t deal with the ball when it came into the box.”

Bringing on B Team winger Pat Jones in the second half, the introduction of the young Welshman almost turned the game in Town’s favour, with Jones scoring once in brilliant fashion before almost setting up the equaliser for Jordan Rhodes moments later.

Speaking about the decision to both include and bring Pat on, Danny said that he’s a player he hopes to see impact the First Team more going forward.

“Pat was down at the start of the week to travel with the B Team to play Rangers tomorrow, but Tino got a knock.

“We’ve always wanted to get Pat involved in the First Team, and he came on and made an impact today.

“He’s an exciting talent, we’ve got a number of players with huge potential in the B Team and Pat is certainly one of them that’s standing out at the moment.

“Pat’s really explosive, he’s good in one-v-one situations and he likes to run in behind. He’s very direct when he goes into goal.

“It’s a player that can excite the fans, a player that create and score goals for us – it’s early in Pat’s career and we’ll keep working with him, helping him, supporting him and develop him in the right way and hopefully he can impact the First Team more often.”
