Jordan Rhodes had a game to remember as Town ran out 0-2 winners at the Riverside against Middlesbrough, with the forward contributing a goal and assist in a Man of the Match performance.

Made up after a huge win on the road, the forward summed up what he saw as a great performance against strong opposition.

“I’m ecstatic, it was a great win and great performance.

“Really professional performance coming somewhere like here, they’re a really good team, really great club, so to come here apply ourselves the way that we did – great performance.”

Given the nod to start with Danny Ward out with a slight hamstring complaint, Rhodes admitted that we was delighted to contribute to the win, whilst wishing his teammate a speedy recovery.

“I just try to do the best as I can with the minutes, and that’s been exactly the same all season.

“Credit to Danny, he’s been incredible, he’s done really really well.

“I think he picked up a little bit of a knock, so hopefully he’s back to good health soon.

“I really enjoyed going out there on the pitch today and working as hard as we can, and a great performance to top it!”

Talking us through his finish – his 89th goal for Town, making him our joint seventh highest ever goalscorer – Jordan admitted that it was exactly what the team needed at that stage of the game.

“I just saw Lew get on the ball, I think we had an overload, it might have been three vs two, and I found myself on the left hand side.

“I can’t really remember if I took a touch or not, but I managed to make good contact with my left foot and saw it go past the ‘keeper and hit the net!

“I’m delighted, it put us two nil up at a stage of the where we just needed to get that second goal and make – hopefully – the last few minutes quite comfortable and we managed to do that.”
