FANS ENCOURAGED TO WRITE ‘LETTERS FOR CHRISTMAS’ TO SOMEONE LONELY OR ISOLATED

Town are encouraging fans to participate in Give… A Few Words’ ‘Letters for Christmas’ initiative this festive season.

Over our three home games leading up to Christmas (West Brom on 20 November, Middlesbrough on 27 November and Coventry on 11 December) the Club is hosting a red post box in the new Activity Zone for supporters to post a positive letter, Christmas card or drawing in.

Juniors who are accompanied by adults can even do their letters, cards or drawings whilst in the Activity Zone before the match, as we have colouring desks, paper and crayons ready!

These will then be delivered to people in care homes, charities and out across the Kirklees and Calderdale community in time for Christmas, via the social enterprise company.

TIPS

- The cards/letters don’t have to be addressed to anybody and can be left anonymous, unless you wish to include your first name alone

- Don’t worry about the length of the letter; a positive or uplifting message, quote or picture is perfect

- Let people know they are not alone at this time

- Have fun writing!

Initially conceived during the first lockdown as a way to help care home residents feel less isolated and alone, Give… A Few Words was born in Kirklees but has since grown far and wide in scope.

Sadly, as the current pandemic endures, there will still be plenty of people feeling alone, isolated and cut off this Christmastime. Millions of older people will spend their Christmas alone, and according to statistics from Age UK, four in five of those will not seek any help to remedy that.

While the festive period is best known as a time of joy and celebration, it was true that even pre-pandemic, loneliness and isolation were real issues facing large sections of our population. With that in mind, participating in the ‘Letters for Christmas’ campaign is an easy and impactful way to spread some seasonal cheer.

Commenting on the campaign, Supporter Services Manager Robyn Kennerdale said:

“We are delighted to be teaming up with Give… A Few Words on their Christmas campaign and we’d love supporters of all ages to help us write as many Christmas Cards or letters as possible.

“Town is at the heart of our local community, and I am certain our fans will be happy to be involved in spreading some Christmas cheer to those who need it most during the festive period”.

Sharron Wilkinson, Founder of Give… A Few Words said:

“We have hundreds of people across Kirklees and Calderdale we are writing to, and so we are delighted to have the support of Huddersfield Town and its fans. You would be surprised at the impact something like a positive quote, letter or picture can have and it is such a nice activity to do alone or with your friends, family or colleagues.

“We do have some Town supporters hoping for letters, so some words about your love for Town or your favourite memory would be great, too!”

Letters can be posted in a special post box that will reside within the new Activity Zone opposite Legend’s Bar and Café on match days at the John Smith’s Stadium.
