Young defender joins the Young Terriers on a scholarship
- A new scholar joins Huddersfield Town’s Under-17 group
- Left back Shane Maroodza signs a two-year scholarship
- Defender has previously been at Leicester City
Huddersfield Town has added another Academy scholar to the Under-17 group today in defender Shane Maroodza.
The 16-year-old left back joins the Club as a free agent, having been part of the Leicester City Academy between Under-9 and Under-16 level.
Hailing from Northampton, Shane enjoyed a successful trial period with the Young Terriers last month, playing in a pair of games – including the EFL Youth Alliance game at Mansfield Town.
He subsequently returned to Town’s Canalside training complex with his parents last weekend to sign his scholarship agreement and will join up with the Under-17 group on a full-time basis from Monday.
Huddersfield Town’s Head of Academy Recruitment Lee Mellor commented:
“Shane can be a great fit as a left back in our Club’s style of play. He has great physical potential, as he already covers long distances with ease.
“Just as importantly, his attitude and character are excellent; that was clear from the moment we spoke with him and his family, who are so supportive of him. That’s so important, as it gives the player every chance of filling that potential.”
