Huddersfield Town will host Oxford United Under-23s in the Premier League Cup Second Qualifying Round at the John Smith’s Stadium on Monday evening.

Admission to the 7pm kick-off is priced at £5 for adults and £2 for Under-18s and Over-60s, with the north end of the Core Stand Lower Tier open on the evening.

The Premier League Cup is an Under-23 competition, although teams can field three overage outfield players and an overage goalkeeper if they choose to.

A winner must be decided on the evening, so extra-time and penalties will be used if necessary.

The victor will go into Group F of the next stage of the competition alongside Sunderland, Liverpool and Wigan Athletic, with a further six fixtures to be played at that stage.

The Town Academy will use the relatively high profile of this competition to focus on performance and result, with the Young Terriers tasked with putting together everything they have learned in training.

“The Premier League Cup competition gives our young players the opportunity to play in top-quality stadia against opponents who will test them tactically and technically, so it lends itself to a focus on performance under those pressures," Academy Manager Leigh Bromby explained.

“We often use games to practise specific phases of play that we’ve been working on in training, because player development is the biggest goal as opposed to getting results week in, week out.

“However, part of learning to become a professional footballer is putting everything together in order to get a result when you need to. That will be the focus on Monday; to advance to the next round.”
