Godwin continues Town stay
Huddersfield Town Development Squad striker Godwin Abadaki has extended his youth loan with the Club until the end of the season.
The teenage Rochdale striker has become a regular member in Steve Eyre’s Development Squad since his arrival in mid-September.
The 18 year-old has made seven starts and one substitute appearance for the Under-21s scoring three goals, which includes a brace against Nottingham Forest.
Huddersfield Town’s Senior Professional Development Coach Steve Eyre has seen plenty of potential in the striker.
“We believe that Godwin is a player with potential,” he said. “Rochdale are still in the same position as they were at the start of the season in that they don’t have a competitive games programme, so it suits both parties for him to stay here and continue his development. I am delighted that he is staying with us and I have high hopes that he will continue to develop as a footballer within our structure.
“He immediately improved the group when he came in. His body strength is something that you don’t see in someone of such a tender age. He can hold the ball up well and has the ability to play against a back four singlehandedly.”
He added: “In order to further improve and remain at this level he needs to have more moments of his own, such as scoring more goals. He needs to get into the box more often, but these are things that we are working on. Before we had the winter break he scored two goals against Nottingham Forest and we have seen sufficient progress to extend his loan until the end of the season.”
Youth loans are different to the usual emergency loans; players under the age of 21 on 1 July are applicable and there is no maximum cap on the number of days players can stay out on youth loans as long as they remain under 21.
Youth loans also offer clubs greater flexibility on players coming and going between the two clubs involved. Godwin’s youth loan includes the option of a permanent deal at the conclusion of the loan.
