Australian international pursued move to Premier League club

- Aaron Mooy signs a new three-year deal at Huddersfield Town
- Australian international joins Brighton & HA on loan
- Siewert: “Aaron was adamant on Premier League test”

Aaron Mooy has signed a new contract with Huddersfield Town ahead of a season-long loan move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Australian international has put pen-to-paper on a new three-year deal at the Club, which will run until 2022, but has moved on loan to the Seagulls to pursue his ambitions of playing in the Premier League.

Town has the option to extend the midfielder’s contract for a further year.

Aaron, who turns 29 next month, originally joined the Terriers on-loan from Manchester City in the summer of 2016 and helped the Club achieve promotion to the Premier League being named Town’s Player of the Year in his first campaign.

Aaron went on to make over 100 appearances for Town, 65 of those in the Premier League, and scored 11 goals.

His previous contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the current 2019/20 season, with no option of extension for the Club.

Mooy will now join Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach Jan Siewert commented:

“Aaron was adamant that he wanted to test himself again in the Premier League when Brighton’s interest came in, and we didn’t want an issue where we had a disillusioned player on the pitch in the final year of his contract.

“We had to look after the interests of Huddersfield Town and couldn’t let him leave on a free at the end of the season, so him signing a new contract ahead of his loan move gives the Club and the player possibilities for the future.

“Good luck to him at Brighton this season.”
