Yuta Nakayama and Sorba Thomas shared their delight from the 1-0 result against Millwall when they spoke to HTTV after the final whistle.

Yuta Nakayama was quick to admit that his goal wasn’t planned.

“I was just lucky, I think!

“I was trying to send the cross to Wardy, so it was very lucky.”

...whereas Sorba Thomas said he would have taken credit!

“I would have definitely claimed that I meant the goal and that it was an unbelievable shot!”

The Japanese international touched on playing in front of home fans and at the John Smith’s Stadium after scoring two goals there so far this season.

“I 100% love playing at the John Smith’s Stadium. For a defender, the best thing is a clean sheet and we managed to get that today, so we just keep going. Winning gives us a lot of energy and confidence; we just need to continue this through upcoming games.”

Finally, Thomas praised Head Coach Mark Fotheringham and the rest of the team as well as touching on the upcoming Sunderland game, which he will now miss through suspension.

“We always said there would be light at the end of the tunnel; it’s about sticking to watch we’re good at.

“We know that it’s a shame we haven’t been the best, but as long as we get a run in the league, we know how far we can go, and this is just the beginning.

“We’re moving in the right direction. Mark Fotheringham is very passionate, and I feel like we needed that.

“There are a lot of big characters in the changing room and the boss is showing that he knows how to handle them.

“We know if we stay compact in the middle that teams can’t force their way through and we can force them wide. We have the players that can do this. For us this is the beginning. We can enjoy today but we know there is a hard game on Wednesday against Sunderland, so we go back, recover, and go again.

“I’m not the only person in the team. If I’m out, you have Connor Mahoney and Aaron Rowe that can step up and they’re as equally effective as I am.

There are a lot of players that can fill the hole, and a lot of players that need to come back from injury – I’m going to keep saying it, this is only the beginning.”
