Town Women in midweek derby

Huddersfield Town Women are back on home turf again on Thursday 3 March 2022 when they host Sheffield FC at the Stafflex Arena.

The Terriers come into the game off the back of a 2-1 win over Stoke City on Sunday 27 February 2022.

The Terriers have faced Sheffield twice so far this season. Last time out was in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup Second Round.

Town had the better chances all through the first half, but struggled to convert them to goals.

After the break, Town got ahead. After a very good strike by Paige Crossman. Luck was on Town’s side, as the ball hit the crossbar and appeared to cross the line, before falling back into the box.

The second goal was an unlucky own goal after a wicked deflection sent the ball into their own net.

Brittany Sanderson added a third in added time to seal the win for the Terriers.

Commenting on the upcoming game, Town Women’s Manager Glen Preston said:

“We're coming off the back of another extremely good week - winning two tough away games that have given us back our momentum.

“We know quite a lot about our opposition having met them just a few weeks ago in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

“On the day, I thought that Sheffield FC defended heroically and made it very hard for us to break them down.

“However, the dynamics for Thursday’s game might be a little different, as they are now in the position where they must win games.

“Therefore, we have to plan for them potentially opening up more and coming at us, so we need to be on our guard for that.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Paige Crossman scored a belter of a goal against Stoke City and also against the opposition in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. Crossman will be full of confidence following from Sunday's game and will be eager to add to her goal tally.

Laura Elford scored a brace against Sheffield FC in the reverse feature earlier this season. Having recently scored a hat-trick against Brighouse in the FAWNL Cup, Elford will be looking to continue netting the ball.
