- Travel to face Brighouse Town on Wednesday 26 January 2022
- Town looking to win nine games in a row

Huddersfield Town Women travel across West Yorkshire to face Brighouse Town at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium on Wednesday 26 January 2022.

With the Terriers looking to extend their winning run of eight games, it’s all to play for on a chilly evening under the lights.

Brighouse head into this game on the back of a massive 5-0 victory at home against Hull City on Sunday 23 January 2022. After scoring 14 goals a week earlier against Brayton Belles, their 19 goals in two games is definitely a cause for concern for the Terriers.

Town hosted Brighouse earlier on in the season in a midweek kick off at the Stafflex Arena back in August 2021. A game that was end-to-end, Town took the lead late on with a Brittany Sanderson strike, before a late equaliser from Drew Greene meant the points were shared between the rival teams.

Last season, the sides met in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, and much like this season’s tie, the game ended in a draw before being settled with a penalty shootout. The game started with a first half penalty converted by Brighouse, before Sanderson equalised to send the game to the full 120 minutes. In the end, Katie Stanley secured Town’s place in the Fourth Round with the winning spot kick.

The hosts have played half of their games at home so far this season, having won three times and lost once, it’s hard to call which way this tie will go. However, the Terriers away form consists of four wins and one loss, which suggests they are just as in control away from home as they are at the Stafflex.

Women’s Manager Glen Preston discussed how Town need to not get ahead of themselves just yet.

“Win streak or no win streak the collective know it’s all about taking things on a game by game basis.

“We are firmly focused on who is next, Brighouse will ask many questions of us and vice versa.

“The group are fired up for the occasion, a midweek game under the lights.

“The expectations of everyone are always very high.

“The culture, the expectations and the drive this squad has shown is top class.

“Once all the preparations are done, it’s time to perform under the lights in a pressure environment, which this squad thrives from immensely.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Town player Sanderson is our one to watch. Having scored in her last two appearances against the opposition, she will be looking at add to that tally in midweek. Additionally, Sanderson is Town’s top goal scorer this season on 13 goals in 17 games in all competitions, so is proving herself to be lethal in front of goal.

Town defender Serena Fletcher is on great form and has scored three goals herself this season, most recently scoring the decisive goal in our huge win against Nottingham Forest. Terriers fans need to keep their eye on Fletcher as she goes from strength to strength under the new manager.

However, Brighouse are not short of goal scorers themselves with former Terrier, Leah Embley, scoring 19 goals in all competitions this season. Embley has scored six in the league, including a hat-trick just last weekend against Hull City.

HOW TO WATCH

Town fans will be able to watch the derby in person at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium, HD6 2PL. With tickets priced at £5 for adults and £3 for concessions, this game is not to be missed.

Kick-off is at 7:45 PM on Wednesday 26th January, with match updates on Twitter and Instagram at @HTAFCWomen all day.
