The latest instalment of ‘Know Your Role’ introduces Town fans to the Club’s Head of Performance Analysis, Jansen Moreno!

Jansen joined Town in March 2017 as the First Team Opposition Analyst and has worked his way up to become the Head of Performance Analysis.

As Head of Performance Analysis, Jansen manages all sides of the analysis department while working closely with First Team Players and Coaching Staff daily to make improvements on their performances from previous games.

“I start the day with our daily staff meeting at 8.30am. We discuss the plan for that day in terms of training, player availability, team and player meetings and video meetings.

“We try to have video meetings with the players everyday if possible. We want them to improve in every area possible so we need to dedicate as much time with them as we can.

“I work closely with the analysis team, Danny and Nicky Cowley, Mark Hudson and Paul Clements.”

When not in meetings with players, Jansen is hard at work analysing games and creating a tactical database to give the players a better understanding on how they can progress.

“My tactical database includes the best practice clips based on how we want to play, it can also include clips of things we may not have done well and need to improve on.”

Jansen, who hails from Gibraltar, delved into how he got involved in Football Analysis and how much it’s changed since he started out.

“I studied Science and Football at University and first came across performance analysis in my first year. It’s grown massively since then and most sports use it religiously now.”

Since arriving at Town, Jansen has experienced both the highs and the lows of working in football. He worked with the Club through their Premier League promotion but also experienced the relegation two seasons later.

“I try to challenge myself every day to make sure I try to improve and learn all the time, but probably the biggest challenge was getting relegated from the Premier League.”

All challenges bring rewards and Jansen continued to discuss the favourite parts about his job at Huddersfield Town.

“Match days are much-loved; it’s what all the hard work is for, you are always working towards match day.

“I also enjoy analysing the team’s performance both collectively and individually to see what we are doing well and where we need to improve.”

If you’re inspired by what you’ve read about Jansen’s profession, he left us with some words of advice for aspiring Football Analysts.

“Work hard and try to do extra, study as much football as you can. Don’t be afraid to get things wrong, make mistakes and keep learning.

“Most importantly, always believe in yourself because anything is possible.”
