‘KEEPER RYAN SCHOFIELD CALLED UP BY ENGLAND U18s

16 March 2017

Stopper in line to face Saudi Arabia & Qatar

- Town goalkeeper Ryan Schofield in England U18 squad
- Academy custodian in line for possible Three Lions debut
- Ryan could face Saudi Arabia and Qatar

Huddersfield Town Academy goalkeeper Ryan Schofield has been called up to the England Under-18 squad for an upcoming set of friendlies in Qatar.

The 17 year-old goalkeeper will train in Qatar with Head Coach Neil Dewsnip’s squad in Qatar and could feature in a trio of matches in the country as the Three Lions take on Saudi Arabia on 22 March before a pair of games against Qatar on 24 and 27 March.

If Schofield does feature in any of the games, it would be his debut for his country at any age group.

He was called into the England Under-18 squad ahead of an international tournament against Poland and France in November 2016, but only as a member of the training squad.

Ryan, who joined Town at Under-9 level from local junior side Lepton Highlanders, had also previously attended an England camp for promising young goalkeepers in January 2016.

He featured in last season's Under-21 Professional Development League 2 Play-Off Final, where he impressed with some brilliant saves as the Terriers defeated Sheffield United to win the national title.

In the 2016/17 campaign, he’s been a virtual ever-present for the Under-18 side, making 23 starts, on top of an additional two starts for Frankie Bunn’s Under-23s.

He also signed his first professional contract at the Club in December 2016.
