YOUNGSTER GUTHRIE LOANED TO CLITHEROE

18 September 2015

Goalkeeper joins Lancashire club until 17 October

- Sam Guthrie joins Clitheroe on a Youth Loan
- 19 year-old goalkeeper leaves HTAFC until 17 October
- Head of Goalkeeping Nick Colgan comments

Huddersfield Town youngster Sam Guthrie has today completed a Youth Loan to Clitheroe FC until 17 October inclusive.

The second year professional joined Town from Gateshead College in 2012 and has since featured regularly for the Under-18s and the Under-21 Development Squad.

The 19 year-old ‘keeper has now joined the Evo-Stick League First Division North side to gain further experience of football at First Team level, following on from a similar Youth Loan at Salford City in the 2014/15 season, when he made five starts at the same level.

Clitheroe’s First Team currently sits eighth in the division thanks to four wins and two defeats from the opening six games of the new campaign. Managed by former Halifax Town player Simon Garner, the Blues host Ossett Town on Saturday.

Huddersfield Town’s Head of Goalkeeping Nick Colgan commented:

“Sam signed a one year contract in the summer and our thought process moving forward was that our younger goalkeepers need to go and get some experience.

“Obviously Lloyd (Allinson) is in First Team setup at the moment and Ed (Wilczynski) has played all of the Under-21 games so far, with Sam playing friendlies with the Under-18s and Under-21s. Now, for his personal development, it is important he goes and plays football in an environment where results really matter.

“This loan is at the same standard he faced when he was at Salford City last year, so he knows what to expect. He will be monitored by myself or another member of staff at the Club when he plays and this is a good opportunity for him to impress us.”
