PPG CUP THIS WEEKEND

8 May 2015

Massive junior football tournament for local children

After the success of its first year, the PPG Cup returns this weekend!

With over 800 local youngsters participating in 2014, the weekend’s tournament promises to showcase some of the area’s best young talent.

Footballers from across the region can follow in the footsteps of Jacob Butterfield, Sean Scannell and Alex Smithies, by emulating their day-to-day routine and take to the pitches at PPG Canalside.

This six-aside tournament welcomes teams ranging from ages seven to 14 – these ages are separated across the full weekend between Saturday and Sunday – and all children will receive a participation medal.

In the programme for the weekend, Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle shares his thought on the highly-anticipated tournament:

“I’m really proud to say the PPG Canalside is fulfilling its purpose in providing a top class facility for the community to enjoy and use alongside Huddersfield Town’s footballers, right from Under-8 level through to the First Team.

“Hopefully you’ll all create memories that will last a lifetime… Who knows, we might see some young players who eventually follow in the footsteps of Alex Smithies, Jacob Butterfield and Sean Scannell and return here on a daily basis.”

The tournament also offers a wide range of activities to keep the entire family occupied throughout the day; there will be face-painters, Town’s official club mascot ‘Terry The Terrier’ and plenty of refreshments to complete the full family experience.

A special Huddersfield Town guest will present all winning teams with a trophy on the day.

Birstall-based PPG Architectural Coatings UK & Ireland, manufacturer of leading trade paint brands Johnstone’s Trade and Leyland Trade, is lending its support to the inaugural PPG Cup as part of its sponsorship of Huddersfield Town’s Canalside training facility on Leeds Road.

Johnstone’s Paint, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary as a leading paint manufacturer in 2015, has sponsored the Football League Trophy for the last nine years.
