Victory in latest PDL2 game

Tony Carss’ Under-18 side recorded a good win in London on Saturday, defeating hosts Millwall in the Professional Development League 2.

One of the longest trips of the season for the young Terriers against a side from the southern section, Town’s players made the journey worthwhile with three unanswered goals.

The first came in the 16th minute when first year scholar Jamie Spencer netted his third goal of the season; the battling midfielder fired home impressively from the edge of the Millwall penalty area for his second in as many fixtures.

That advantage was doubled just before the half-hour when the in-form Jack Boyle scored. Fresh from a brace on his first Under-21 start just eight days ago, the first year scholar – who played at the tip of a midfield diamond – picked up a pass from striker Rekeil Pyke before bending a low shot home from 20 yards.

Pyke got on the score-sheet himself in the 67th minute, although defender Danny Kane might have something to say about that! The newly crowned Ireland Under-17 Player of the Year (click HERE for info) hit the ball goalwards from 20 yards out and Pyke diverted the ball past the goalkeeper.

Carss gave a first start at this level to Under-16 midfielder Lewis O’Brien during the game, who was later replaced by Brighouse Town trialist Callum Charlton.

The Under-18s went into the game second in the Professional Development League 2 North table, four points behind leaders Nottingham Forest but with two games in hand. There are now three games left for the young Terriers, with the top two sides from the northern table playing the end of season Play-Offs against the southern section.

Forest won at Swansea to maintain their lead, but third placed Birmingham City lost at Charlton – meaning Carss’ side is now five points clear of them. Town’s next game happens to be away at Birmingham City on Wednesday 8 April.

Highlights from Saturday’s game will appear on the Club’s official YouTube channel – www.youtube.com/officialhtafc - on Monday.
