KANE IN IRISH U17 SQUAD

27 February 2014

Friendlies against Austria in Dublin

Huddersfield Town Academy scholar Danny Kane has been selected for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-17 Squad for its forthcoming International Friendly Fixtures against Austria in Dublin.

First year scholar Kane – who already has four caps at Under-17 level for the Irish – and his teammates will take on the Austrians at 7pm on Tuesday 4 March, with the second game at the same venue at 2pm on Thursday 6 March.

The Irish Under-17s, who are led by Head Coach Tom Mohan, are preparing for the Elite Qualifying Round of the UEFA Under-17 Championships.

The Republic of Ireland is in Group 5 alongside Germany, Serbia and Georgia, with all three qualifying games taking place in Serbia between 26 and 31 March 2014. The winners of the round robin group will advance to the finals, which will be contested in Malta in May.

Danny, who signed for Town from Cherry Orchard in the summer, can play anywhere across defence or in a holding midfield role. So far this season he has made 10 starts and four substitute appearances for Town’s Under-18s, scoring one goal.
