ROTHERHAM RUN OUT NEXT UP

19 July 2013

Robins’ men head to South Yorkshire on Saturday

Town’s First Team squad are back in action on Saturday when they travel to promoted League 1 side Rotherham United.

So far, Mark Robins’ men have drawn twice with York City (1-1) and Guiseley (2-2) and been defeated by Chesterfield (1-2).

In 2011, Town played Rotherham as part of their pre-season plans and recorded a 3-1 victory; in the previous season the Terriers comfortable beat the Millers 5-2 in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Rotherham – 2012/13 season

A late surge by the Millers saw them promoted automatically from League 2 last season. Five wins from their final five matches earned Steve Evans’ men a place in League 1.

Prior to that impressive patch of form Rotherham had looked destined for the Play-Offs after recording just one win in six games. Striker Daniel Nardiello was instrumental in the Millers' success with 18 goals in 29 starts.

Rotherham – ones to watch

Summer signing David Worrall could be a key figure next season for Steve Evans after signing from Bury. The 23 year-old midfielder spent three years at Bury and was frequently linked with Championship clubs.

Two former Town players are currently within the Rotherham ranks. Danny Schofield has spent the last two seasons with the Millers after signing from Millwall. He had previously spent ten years with the Terriers where he scored 40 goals in 210 league starts.

Also, Lionel Ainsworth joined Rotherham last summer, but has found cementing a first team place difficult. It was a similar issue for Ainsworth at Town, who made just nine league starts before joining Shrewsbury.
