DANNS: THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY

8 January 2013

January signing relishing his new challenge

New recruit Neil Danns is ready to help reignite Town’s season after signing on loan from Leicester City.

Danns becomes Town’s first signing of 2013 and will stay with the Terriers until the end of the season.

“I am delighted that the deal has been sorted,” said the 30 year-old. “Coming into a club like Huddersfield is a great opportunity for me; they still have a chance of making the Play-Offs and I want to help them push on up the league.

“Once I heard that the opportunity was available, I was buzzing to get up here.”

The midfielder has spent the last two months on loan at Bristol City and prior to that played against Town for Leicester City’s Development side.

“I haven’t just come here to help the team survive in the npower Championship; I have got my eyes set on helping the team get up back towards the Play-Offs. We are still in the mix, with loads of games to play and thankfully I am feeling match fit after my loan at Bristol City. I enjoyed my time at City, but I am looking forward to this new challenge.”

The former Blackburn youth player was given a warm welcome by a number of Town’s team who have played alongside him in the past. Alan Lee, James Vaughan and Sean Scannell were team mates of Danns at Crystal Palace, while more recently Jermaine Beckford played alongside him at Leicester.

“There are probably too many players to name that I know already. That will make the settling in period a lot smoother and quicker; I just can’t wait to get going and start playing football.”

Ian Miller is also familiar with the midfielder after coaching him at Blackburn.

“’Dusty’ brought me through as a youth team player and helped me make my debut at Blackburn. I have always kept in touch with Ian throughout the years and he is a person that I hold in high regard. It wasn’t just me that he helped become a professional - he helped a lot of my friends make the step up and I am looking forward to working with him again.”

Danns has the ability to play across midfield and has also played on the right wing during his career.

“Predominantly I have played as a central midfielder, but I have played on either wing or just off the front man. I will play wherever the Gaffer sees fit and I will always give 100%.”
