TOWN U21s 2-1 SHEFF UTD

16 December 2013

Bunn and Mullin secure win

Second-half goals from Harry Bunn and Paul Mullin ensured Town’s Under-21 side ended 2013 on a winning note against visitors Sheffield United at Canalside this afternoon.

Today’s victory means that Town’s Under-21 side, managed by Senior Professional Development Coach Steve Eyre, has won eight and drawn one of its first nine games in the U21 Professional Development League 2 so far this season.

Town fielded the maximum three overage players in Calum Woods, Anton Robinson and Cristian Lopez, whereas Sheffield United’s strong team included First Team pros Mark Howard, Lecsinel Jean-Francois, Florent Cuvelier, Lyle Taylor and Febian Brandy.

It was also a final competitive game for Town for Captain James Burke and left back Robbie McIntyre, who will leave the Club at the expiry of their current contracts in December.

The Blades led at the break through former Manchester United striker Brandy, but the Terriers fought back in difficult conditions during the second period.

The first goal came from former Sheffield United loanee Bunn, who finished expertly into the top corner on his left foot from 15 yards out.

It took until the 77th minute for Town to net the winner, with Academy graduate Paul Mullin finding space ten yards out to head home Jordan Sinnott’s inswinging corner.

Town played the final 25 minutes with Academy scholars Philip Billing and Jake Charles on the pitch.

Town’s team (4-3-1-2):

Lloyd Allinson; Robbie McIntyre, Murray Wallace (Joe Wright, 46), James Burke (c), Calum Woods; Jordan Sinnott, Anton Robinson (Philip Billing, 65), Paul Mullin; Duane Holmes; Harry Bunn, Cristian Lopez (Jake Charles, 65)

Unused subs:
