BOOTHY ATTENDS GIRL’S TOURNAMENT

18 December 2012

Ambassador visits School Partner Holmfirth High School

Huddersfield Town Club Ambassador Andy Booth paid a visit to School Partner Holmfirth High School last week to watch 70 girls from the Holme Valley area participate in a girl’s only football tournament.

The tournament was organised by footballer, coach and qualified referee Abby Sanderson, who said:

"I wanted to organise the tournament for the girls because I don't think that there are enough opportunities for girls to get involved with football in our local area. I hoped that this tournament would spark an interest in some of the girls and encourage them to play football. It was lovely to see so many girls playing and enjoying themselves. All my efforts seemed worth it when the girls were having fun and playing and it was thoroughly rewarding for me to see the girls’ reactions. I would also like to say a massive thank you to Huddersfield Town for supporting the event, with particular thanks to Andy Booth for joining us on the afternoon."

Eight teams entered the tournament in varying age groups from five local junior schools. The event was an opportunity for the girls to develop their football, team work and communication skills, while for others is was an introduction to football.

Boothy was in attendance and watched as Wooldale Junior School deservedly won both age groups.
