EYRE EAGER FOR RADCLIFFE TEST

3 August 2012

Development Coach previews tonight’s game

The likes of Alan Lee, Anton Robinson, Tom Clarke and Liam Ridehalgh will play during tonight’s friendly at Radcliffe Borough, Development Coach Steve Eyre has told htafc.com.

The quartet will join Town’s first year professionals and trialist Scott Kay (ex-Manchester City) for the 7pm kick-off in Greater Manchester and Steve told htafc.com that the Evo-Stik League side will give his team a good test.

“Radcliffe try and play football and the way we want to play should make it an entertaining game.  They have played Bury and Bolton in pre-season too and clubs are always happy to go there because they know the surface is good and the opposition are fair and try to play. They are fairly local too, so it all adds up to be the right game for us.”

Radcliffe have made tonight’s game free to watch and Eyre is hopeful that a sizeable crowd will watch the game.

“I think there were about 400 there for the Bolton game and it’s no surprise that they are holding an open day and letting people in for free tonight because they are a real family club. Hopefully there will be good numbers there tonight to watch us play.”

This is the second game in a week for Eyre’s young charges after Tuesday’s Development game at Liverpool and Eyre is keen to keep his side progressing as the season approaches.

“We want to get the lads some extra minutes tonight, particularly the ones who are close to the first team as we are only a fortnight away until the start of the season.

“We go into these contests always wanting to win and tonight is no different, but first and foremost we are looking for extra minutes on the pitch and working on things like patterns of play. Competition for first team places is still very open.”
