17-year-old Bakre scored in the north east
- Sunderland 6-1 Huddersfield Town B
- Young side is second best on the evening
- Hazeem Bakre scores our only goal
A young Huddersfield Town B side came off second best in a friendly at Sunderland on Monday evening.
With several of the more experienced B Team players unavailable to him on the evening, Academy Manager Jon Worthington took a young squad to the north east. Among them was left back Luke Daley, who continued his return from injury by playing a planned 45 minutes.
Things didn’t start well for Town when Sunderland defender Ben Crompton headed home at the back post from a second minute corner, with a trialist making it 2-0 just after the quarter hour mark.
Town were given hope when 17-year-old forward Hazeem Bakre continued his goalscoring start to the season with another, converting with a first time finish from around 12 yards out from Tom Iorpenda’s pullback.
However, home striker Timur Tutierov responded to make it 3-1 at the interval.
Worthington’s side got even younger during the second 45 minutes as Under-19 players Dylan Helliwell, 18, and 17-year-olds Aaron Ojungu and Temi Okuwa entered the fray. In the end, Sunderland scored three more without reply to run out comfortable winners.
The Under-19 side is back in action on Tuesday, playing a behind-closed-doors game at Manchester City.
