REPORT: CHORLEY FC 5-2 TOWN B

31 July 2021

Town B beaten in final pe-season friendly

- Young Terriers fall to defeat in final friendly
- Second half goals seal Chorley’s victory
- Kian Harratt and Brahima Diarra on scoresheet

Huddersfield Town’s B Team fell to a 5-2 defeat against Chorley in their final pre-season friendly at Victory Park on Saturday afternoon.

A busy first half saw Jon Worthington’s side take the lead, before Chorley turned the tables in the 44th minute, before sealing their victory with two second half goals.

The game started with evenly split possession, with both sides searching to break the deadlock.

It was the hosts who were able to do so in the 12th minute, with Harry Cardwell being able to latch onto a Chorley free-kick and tap it in.

Moments later, the Young Terriers equalised through Kian Harratt. The striker collected the ball from B Team new boy Jon Russel, and sent the ball straight into the back of the net whilst Chorley’s ‘keeper was distracted.

Town made the most of the confidence boost from equalising, taking the lead in the 21st minute. Brahima Diarra slotted the ball straight into the bottom corner.

Unfortunately, the lead didn’t stand for long, as Chorley were given a penalty after Cardwell was brought down in the box. Connor Hall made no mistake from the spot to bring the scores level.

Chorley began to come back into the game for the remainder of the first half, forcing Nicholas Bilokapic into a brilliant save to keep the scores level.

Just before the half time whistle the hosts regained possession, with Cardwell getting his second of the game.

Town made one change at the break, with Ben Midgley coming on for Jon Russell.

The Magpies came out the stalls fastest, with Billy Whitehouse doubling their lead in the 53rd minute with a strike from the edge of the area.

Chorley took the possession for the majority of the second half, seeing Cardwell get his hat-trick.

The hosts went on to force another great save out of Bilokapic. He went to his left to smack the ball out of danger.

The final 10 minutes saw the roles reversed, with Town eager to find a foot hole back into the game. Jaheim Headley was at the centre of the action, breaking through a sea of Chorley players and sending his shot straight at the ‘keeper. Unfortunately, one of their defenders got there just in time to head it away.

Next it was Harratt’s turn to try and secure his own brace, forcing the Magpies’ ‘keeper into a low dive at the final second.

The final chance of the game fell to the hosts, but Bilokapic produced an unbelievable dive to get a finger tap on the ball and get it away from the net.

Despite a good fight from the Young Terriers, it wasn’t to be at Victory Park.
