U19s DEFEATED BY GARUDA SELECT

22 March 2023

Huddersfield Town’s U19s were defeated at Loughborough Stadium

- Garuda Select 6-0 Huddersfield Town’s U19s
- Strong side coached by Dennis Wise and Des Walker
- Friendly against Indonesian side

Huddersfield Town’s U19s were defeated 6-0 by Indonesian side Garuda Select in a friendly hosted at Loughborough Stadium.

This afternoon’s fixture against Garuda Select saw our youngsters defeated in a friendly hosted at Loughborough Stadium due to two first half goals and four second half goals – one of which was a penalty.

Despite the final score, our Young Terriers started the game on the front foot. Within the first five minutes, Joseph Johnson had received the ball on the left and sent a nice low cross into the box but this was defended well by Garuda Select’s back line.

Johnson slotted the ball past the ‘keeper and found the back of the net in the eighth minute after he was brilliantly crossed the ball at the far post by Cian Philpott, but the flag went up and the goal was ruled offside.

This was followed by a throw in on the edge of the box, which started the next run of play where the ball was crossed into the box to find Johnson again – his header was defended well and went out for a goal kick after he was marked well by his man.

The 17th minute saw the first real chance for the Garuda Select as Givory Lotra was sent a through ball and played onside as he ran past our defensive line, but this was dealt with by Freddie Fletcher who got back in time and made the block.

Sam Beedie, one of our trialists this afternoon, over-hit a cross from well outside the box but as it started to dip at the right town heading towards the back of the net this forced the Garuda Select ‘keeper to make the save and push the ball over the bar out for a Town corner.

Our oppositions first goal came in the 24th minute after a corner, Diego Ronco ran across the box and headed the ball past Michael Acquah and into the far bottom corner.

The Young Terriers were awarded a free-kick in the attacking after a foul from Ronco, which Johnson stepped up to take but this goes wide of the goal.

A nice one-two was played between Johnson and Beedie as they got the ball forwards and towards the box but Beedie’s first time cross was read well by the Garuda Select ‘keeper and he made the save before any Town players could make contact with the delivery.

Benjamin Mendy of Garuda Select doubled our oppositions advantage just before half-time as he slotted the ball into the bottom corner in the 43rd minute and Town went into the break behind by two goals.

The Indonesian side took control of the second half early on as Jose Mendy made it 3-0 in the 54th minute, closely followed by Cristian Mazzara’s goal in the 60th minute as he scored the fourth goal.

Half-time substitute Hazeem Bakre had a good chance to get a goal back in the 66th minute with a right-footed shot from inside the box, but this went wide of the net.

A penalty was awarded to Garuda Select after Jose Mendy was fouled by Omari Mrisho and this was converted by Nabil Asyura in the 76th minute.

The sixth and final goal of the game was scored in the 78th after a cross to the near post allowed Ragil to tap the ball into the back of the net after just coming off the bench.

Temi Okuwa had the best chance for Town as he shot from just outside the box and forced their substitute ‘keeper to make the save.

Town’s Team (4-2-3-1)
