We are delighted to welcome nine new scholars to the Huddersfield Town Academy ahead of the 2024/25 season, with the players joining up with our U18 group.

Having promoted a number of players to B Team level throughout the campaign and said goodbye to a number of individuals following the announcement of our 2023/24 Retained List, we have refreshed our U18 group with nine new scholars.

Arriving at the Club from a range of backgrounds and in positions across the entire pitch, supporters can find out more about each player below.

Hugo Bennett - Goalkeeper

Plying his trade between the sticks, goalkeeper Bennett joins the Club having previously spent time with Lincoln and Shelley. Supporters may recognise him as a trialist for the Terriers earlier this season.

Gabriano Shelton - Right Back / Central Midfield

Able to play at both right back and in central midfield, Shelton joins from Liverpool and is eligible internationally for South Africa, for whom he was selected for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nicolas Idemudia - Central Defence

Central defender Idemudia arrives to West Yorkshire having spent time with Oldham Atheltic most recently, turning out for the Latics in the FA Youth Cup last season.

Joe Nicholson - Full Back / Wing Back / Wing

Comfortable in all positions on the right flank, Nicholson has previously enjoyed time with Bolton. Whilst part of the U16 group at Bolton, Nicholson made at least one appearance at U18 level.

Zac Bowker - Wing / Forward

Also from the Bolton academy, Bowker can play from either wing, whilst remaining comfortable through the middle up front. Much like Nicholson, Bowker also made at least one U18 appearance for Bolton whilst being part of the U16 group.

Marlie Neil - Central Midfield

A youth international for Wales, central midfielder Neil joins from Everton. Making the journey from Merseyside, Neil is a regular for his nation, picked in their 2023 Victory Shield Tournament squad whilst remaining part of their underage groups to date.

Luke Schofield - Central Midfield

A central midfielder signed from grassroots football, Schofield is looking to follow in the footsteps of his father, former Terrier Danny Schofield. Having spent some time as a trialist at Town, Schofield impressed enough to join as a scholar.

Mohammed Fikri - Wing / Forward

Joining the Terriers having previously been at Bradford City, attacker Fikri can operate from both flanks and as a centre forward. Another who has impressed as a trialist, Fikri actually turned out for Town against Bradford City during that spell last season.

Milkyas Mebrathu - Wing / Attacking Midfield

Previously on the books of Liverpool, Mebrathu is most comfortable in the final third, with his positions of choice in attacking midfield or from either wing.

Huddersfield Town Academy Manager Jon Worthington commented:

“We’re delighted to welcome all nine new scholars to the Club and Academy, and are excited about working with them to make the most of their talent as they seek to fulfil their potential.

“As with all Academy players, our job is to provide them a platform from which they can grow and succeed both on and off the field. With the coaching programme we have devised, facilities available and care provided, we’re confident of doing just that.

“It’s an honour to sign for Huddersfield Town, even as a scholar, as we’ll be looking for each player to carry themselves and conduct themselves in the correct manner as a Terrier. I’d like to congratulate them all on making it this far and we look forward to welcoming them to the Club.

“Arriving in time for pre-season, this will be the time for the hard work to start to set themselves up properly for the season ahead.”

Welcome to the Club, lads!
