FOUNDATION: ‘HEADS UP’ PROGRAMME FOR MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH

24 March 2024

Foundation launches new group to fight stigma and support men's mental health

- Heads Up provides safe and welcoming space for men
- Huddersfield Town Foundation launches new group in Mirfield
- Weekly drop-in sessions also available at the Community Hub from Wednesday 10 April

Funded through the Community Plus Fund, the Huddersfield Town Foundation will be launching the second round of their Mental Health friendly programme, Heads Up.

As a vital aspect of the Club's ethos, our Terriers Together work highlights the importance of respect and inclusion in football, and - working alongside the Foundation - we want to reduce the stigma associated with mental health by creating spaces where people can be themselves.

Delivered by members of staff from the Foundation, Heads Up provides a safe and welcoming space for men - aged 18 and over - who may want to talk about their mental health and meet new people. Each session will include informal discussions around mental and physical well-being with peers and staff, as well as fun activities such as table tennis.

The Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Siobhan Atkinson said:

“It is important to the Huddersfield Town Foundation that we provide support to those in our communities that need it most.

“Heads Up offers a space for men to come together in a relaxed, non-judgmental setting.

“We have seen some great friendships blossom in our other Heads Up groups, and know that by organising such events we really can make a difference to people’s mental health and sense of self.”

Our next group starts on Thursday 11 April from 2pm until 3pm at the Salvation Army in Mirfield (WF14 8AF) - with sessions taking place weekly for the following eight weeks.

Thinking of joining us for Heads Up? If so, you'll be greeted at the door by a member of the Huddersfield Town Foundation staff and introduced to other group members. You can help yourself to a hot or cold drink, whilst taking a seat on the sofas or joining in with a game of table tennis!

To register your interest, or if there’s something we can do to make your attendance as comfortable as possible, please email help@htafcfoundation.com.

We'll also be launching a Heads Up weekly drop-in session at the Community Hub at the John Smith's Stadium on Wednesday 10 April 2024 – contact us via the above email for more information!
