As part of our commitment to our Terriers Together work, our EDI External Advisory Group has recently been extended and relaunched to reaffirm best practice and promote growth.

The Club’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion External Advisory Group originally formed in 2019, as part of the work being done at that time towards the Intermediate Level of the Premier League, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard.

Starting with six founding members and supported by members of staff in the Club’s internal Equality Working Group, the External Advisory Group has acted as a supportive and trusted critical friend, offering appropriate challenge and scrutiny of our ‘Terriers Together’ work as necessary, and providing impartial advice and guidance to enable us to continue to fulfil our inclusion aims.

As our ‘Terriers Together’ equality, diversity, and inclusion work has continued to evolve and develop, we recognise that we must also ensure our support structures remain current and fit for purpose.

Membership of the External Advisory Group has changed over the past five years, but we are fortunate to have retained three founding members throughout, and they have played a crucial role in us achieving a number of accreditations and awards, including the Advanced Level of the Premier League Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Standard in May 2023.

To further reflect the diverse population of Kirklees and ensure the work we are doing is appropriately focused on inclusion and community cohesion throughout the borough, we recently recruited ten new members to our External Advisory Group, who will now work alongside the longer-serving members to support the next chapter of ‘Terriers Together’.

All members of the group are volunteers who have committed to their role because they share our vision for bringing people from different backgrounds and with different characteristics together, and we are grateful for their time and enthusiasm to help us deliver our strategy and continue to maintain the standards of football-related equality and inclusion frameworks, which in the immediate future includes the EFL Equality Code of Practice and Menstruation Friendly Employer.

We are very much looking forward to working as a new collective and hope you will all join us in welcoming our new members.
