Matty Pearson was the winner on Valentine's Day for the Terriers, with his first half finish from close range the difference as Town did the double over Sunderland in the Sky Bet Championship!
Latching onto the ball following a save from the goalkeeper after Jack Rudoni had turned to shoot from a smartly worked free-kick, it was a lead that had been coming and was richly deserved by Town, who had set the tempo for the game and shown the most initiative throughout.
In reality, the scoreline might've favoured the Terriers more, but they were unable to take any of their other chances. Josh Koroma came closest though, with another dead ball from the edge of the box this time smacking the inside of the upright rather than saved by the goalkeeper, with the Town number 10 catching the Sunderland wall and defence by surprise with his effort.
An impressive showing, Sunderland did have one or two efforts after the break, but Lee Nicholls handled those admirably, particualrly a one-on-one save from Patrick Roberts who had been played through for his side's best chance. Welcoming back Danny Ward and Delano Burgzorg, it was a bench with real strength, underlining what was another positive evening at the John Smith's Stadium.
