The Premier League Cup is a competition for Under-21 teams, although each side is allowed a maximum of five overage outfield players and one overage goalkeeper.

The group stage is contested between eight groups of four clubs, with sides playing the other three teams home and away. At the end of that stage, the top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stages

This season Jon Worthington’s team has been drawn in Group F alongside Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Fleetwood Town.

Wednesday evening’s opponents, Newcastle United, were also in Town’s group in the 2021/22 campaign, and some now familiar faces in Town’s First Team squad were involved in our 2-0 home win that time!

We advanced to the knockout stage last season, but lost at home to Blackburn Rovers in the Round of 16.

If you can’t make it down to the game, we’ll bring you live text updates from the game on our Academy X account, @htafcacademy!
