LOAN: MUSTAPHA OLAGUNJU JOINS EBBSFLEET UNITED

24 October 2023

Huddersfield Town B Team central defender joins National League side on loan

- Huddersfield Town B defender Mustapha Olagunju leaves on loan
- Centre back signs for Ebbsfleet United
- Loan agreed until 28 January 2024

Huddersfield Town B central defender Mustapha Olagunju has today joined Ebbsfleet United in the National League on loan until 28 January 2024.

Having already made his senior Town debut back in 2021 in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round against Plymouth Argyle at home, the central defender then missed over 16 months of football after a complicated fracture to his kneecap.

With a string of eye-catching 90 minute performances under his belt since returning to full fitness, the 21-year-old defender will now step back into competitive first team football in the fourth loan move of his career to date having previously spent time with Tadcaster Albion, Welling United and Port Vale.

Now moving down to Kent with Ebbsfleet United, they currently sit in 17th place after 16 games played, winning five, drawing two and losing nine so far. Mustapha might not have to wait long to make his debut, with the Fleet facing Southend United away tomorrow evening, Tuesday 23 October, at 7.45pm.

Huddersfield Town Loan Manager David Fox commented:

“Muzzy has been a player we’ve been excited about for some time, the fact that he already has a First Team appearance speaks to that. This is now the perfect opportunity for him to step up the intensity of the football he’s playing after working for hard to overcome his long-term injury.

"Ebbsfleet are a side we know well having previously had Giosue Bellagambi on loan there, so we know that Mustapha will be well looked after and within an environment that gives him the best possible chance to succeed.

“You only have to look at the list of clubs in the National League to see how good the standard has become, so it will be brilliant for Mustapha’s development to test his body and reading of the game against experienced professionals with real stakes on each game and performance.

“He has everything you could wish for in a young defender, it’s just about working together to put all of those things together. We will be keeping a close eye on him, as we do with all of our loanees, and look forward to seeing how he adapts to being back in that competitive environment.”

Best of luck out on loan, Muzzy!
