FOUR TERRIERS DEPART FOR INTERNATIONAL DUTY

8 October 2023

Find out more about when they play over the next two weeks.

- Four Town players heading away on international duty
- A first call-up for Yuta Nakayama since long injury lay-off
- Further calls for Brodie Spencer, Pat Jones, and Charles Ondo

Four Huddersfield Town players have now departed on international duty as domestic football makes its second pause of the 2023/24 season.

Yuta Nakayama, Brodie Spencer, Pat Jones, and Charles Ondo have all joined up with their respective national squads for fixtures over the next fortnight. Find out more about what’s in store for them below!

Yuta Nakayama – Japan

Yuta’s summons into the Japan national squad effectively completes a long road to recovery for the defender following his season-ending Achilles injury last season.

Nakayama, who already has 17 caps for his country, was cruelly denied an appearance at the summer’s World Cup tournament when he suffered the serious injury against Sunderland at the John Smith’s Stadium but has since recovered to start our last five Sky Bet Championship fixtures.

He has now departed for Japan to join up with his national squad for a pair of fixtures. First up is the Mizuho Blue Dream Match against Canada on 13 October in Niigata, 11.35am kick-off UK time, before the Kirin Challenge Cup versus Tunisia on 17 October in Kobe, 11.10am kick-off UK time.

Brodie Spencer – Northern Ireland

Brodie has earned his second successive call-up to Michael O’Neill’s senior squad for a pair of UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches on home soil.

The team’s qualification prospects look bleak as they sit fifth in six team group with three points from six games, but they now have two home games at Windsor Park against San Marino on 14 October, 2pm kick-off, and Slovenia on 17 October, 7.45pm kick-off.

Our 19-year-old defender already has three caps for his national team and has started all six Scottish Premiership games since joining Motherwell on loan, playing left wing back.

Pat Jones – Wales Under-21s

Pat joins the Wales Under-21 side for a UEFA Euro Under-21 qualifying match away at the Czech Republic on Friday 13 October, 5pm kick-off.

The Welsh are top of their group so far after an impressive draw in Denmark and victory in Lithuania; games in which Pat earned two of his five caps at this level.

The game will be free to watch on the Sgorio YouTube channel.

Charles Ondo – Equatorial Guinea

19-year-old Charles could feature in Equatorial Guinea’s international friendly at home to Burkina Faso on Friday 13 October, 5pm kick-off, having made his senior debut for the side in the last window against Libya.

Charles departs Huddersfield on a high, having scored our goal in the B Team’s 1-1 Premier League Cup draw at Nottingham Forest on Friday evening.

Town face Queens Park Rangers at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday 21 October 2023 after the upcoming international break. CLICK HERE to secure your seat and get behind the team!
