Our final game at home under the lights this season, automatically promoted Sheffield United are our penultimate visitors to the John Smith’s Stadium ahead of the final day of the season on Bank Holiday Monday.

With just two games of the 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship season remaining, Town know that a point against Sheffield United will secure their league status following Sunday’s all important away win at Cardiff City.

THE OPPOSITION

Sheffield United have already confirmed their promotion to the Premier League, securing a second place Sky Bet Championship finish behind Champions Burnley. Under the guidance of Paul Heckingbottom and Stuart McCall the Blades have amassed 88 points over 44 games, only losing 10 games across the course of the season so far.

Having been relegated from the top flight at the end of the 2020/21 season, the South Yorkshire side will return after a two year hiatus having fallen at the Play-Off Semi-Final stage last season.

ONES TO WATCH

Anel Ahmedhodžić

Signed from Malmo FF in Sweden in the summer of 2022, the central defender has featured 40 times in all competitions for Sheffield United this season, scoring six times and contributing a further two assists. An international for Bosnia-Herzegovina at just 24 years old, Ahmedhodžić has had a well travelled career already with time spent playing in France and Denmark as well as Sweden and England. Influential in both boxes in attack and defence, he is a player Town will have to be at their best to get the better of.

Oliver Norwood

A familiar face to Town having spent two years with the Club between 2012 and 2014, the midfielder has had a fantastic career with Reading, Brighton, Fulham and Sheffield United in both the Sky Bet Championship and Premier League. A Northern Irish international, the 32 year old has played 49 games in all competitions for Sheffield United this season, scoring twice and contributing a further five assists. A metronomic midfielder who keeps their side ticking over with the ball, Town would be smart to dampen his influence on the fixture as much as possible.

Iliman Ndiaye

Sheffield United’s star man, Ndiaye joined from Boreham Wood in 2019 taking the step up in his stride. Still just 23 years old, the attacking midfielder has played 50 games in all competitions for the Blades this season, scoring 14 goals and registering 10 assists – making him only one of two players in the Sky Bet Championship to hit double figures in both. A full international for Senegal, he represented his country as last years FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with one goal in seven caps. Their obvious danger man, Ndiaye scored the only goal in the reverse fixture at Bramall Lane.
