P4P11 REVIEW: OVER £30K ALREADY RAISED!

10 May 2023

A review of Huddersfield Town's Pedal for Pounds 11: The Land of the Dragon!

- 85 participants took part in Huddersfield Town’s annual bike ride
- Funds going to four great local charities
- Comments from Club Ambassador Andy Booth

85 Terriers completed the 240-mile journey from the John Smith’s Stadium to Cardiff for Pedal for Pounds 11, sponsored by Millers Oils, ahead of our game against Cardiff City.

The event raised money for four brilliant local charities; the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the Huddersfield Town Foundation, Ruddi’s Retreat, and the Andy’s Man Club.

A journey that took place over three days, the cyclists travelled from Huddersfield to Lichfield, from Lichfield to Worcester, and finally from Worcester to Cardiff – the route was far from easy!

Having met at Legend’s Bar and Café from around 7am on Wednesday 26 April 2023 to check in and receive a welcoming message and safety briefing from Club Ambassador Andy Booth, the cyclists pedalled a quick lap of the John Smith’s Stadium before hitting the road.

The first day consisted of a 98-mile trip to Lichfield via Glossop, meaning the beauty of both the Peak District and Derbyshire was in full view along the scenic route. The day’s lunch stop at Pomeroy Farm saw Dean and Janet Hoyle serving up bacon and sausage sandwiches from the barbeque! Finally, after one more drink stop around the 75-mile mark, the riders made their way to the hotel for a well-deserved rest after a tough first day.

Day two saw a shorter 48.6-mile day for the riders as they all set off in their own time and made their way from Lichfield to Worcester whilst they navigated their way round Birmingham. This route included plenty of country roads and cycle paths as they headed to their destination early ready to unwind for the night and prepare for the big final day that would see all 85 of them travel from Worcester to Cardiff.

The third and final day saw the cyclists complete the 240-mile bike ride with an 87-mile journey to Cardiff via Gloucestershire and across the Welsh border into Cardiff. Despite the difficult day, all of the participants pushed themselves as hard as they could to complete the ride, being greeted with applause and an extremely warm reception.

Commenting on the ride, Boothy said:

“It’s been another fantastic ride, but very tough to say the least! It must be up there with one of the hardest rides we’ve done out of the twelve.

“One of my highlights of the ride was gathering all the cyclists together on Thursday night for Town legend Iain Dunn’s quiz night, we were also joined by special guest Darren Bullock and I’m sure anyone who was there will agree it was a night full of laughs with those two!

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the support team who volunteer their time every year to make the event the success it has been over the past 14 years.”

Supported by a host of incredible sponsors, we extend our thanks to our main sponsors Millers Oils, as well as AMT Auto, The Dunkirk, Northern Star Services Ltd, Quickslide Windows & Doors, Specialist Glass Products LTD, Woodcock & Wilson, Sentio, and Corpad.

Huddersfield Town would also like to thank Olik Sport who designed and manufactured this year’s shirt, as well as Expect Distribution, Stotts Coaches, Ice Valley Shepley Spring, One17 Design, Ronan Developments and Cardiff City Football Club amongst many others for all their support and generous donations.

This year’s P4P11: The Land of the Dragon has raised £33.9k, with donations still coming in after the cyclists’ lap of honour around the John Smith’s Stadium before Monday’s final game of the season against Reading.
