Town registered a timely first ever win at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday 30 April, with second half goals from Joe Hungbo and Matty Pearson sealing three vitally important points!

Stretching our run to just one defeat in eight, the Terriers are improbably now just one point away from safety in the Sky Bet Championship, with two home fixtures to come against Sheffield United and Reading in the coming week.

Having battled in an even first half in South Wales, neither side was able to gain the upper hand despite creating chances. Town’s best opening perhaps fell for Danny Ward following excellent work from Brahima Diarra to pick the right pass, but the forward’s strike was stopped well by the goalkeeper.

Making a chance in the break with Joe Hungbo replacing Diarra, the Terriers stretched the game further and took the game to Cardiff City more directly. Pressing high, Jack Rudoni was yet again excellent in midfield, giving Romaine Sawyers no space straight from a goal kick to knock the ball loose.

Falling to Joe Hungbo on the run in the box, the winger dropped a shoulder to beat a defender before whipping an excellent left footed finish into the top corner, giving Town a rapturously celebrated lead in the Welsh capital.

Using their momentum, Rudoni again laid on the second – this time from a free kick out wide on the left following a foul on Jaheim Headley. Whipping one to the back post, Pearson got his head to the ball which squirted past the goalkeeper via the foot of a Cardiff defender, with the Town team and support celebrating as one in the corner!

Town did concede late on from a set play denying Lee Nicholls a clean sheet on his return to the side after almost four months away following shoulder surgery, with the ‘keeper shaking off any cobwebs in the last minute of the game to dive heroically to his left to deny Colwill with a characteristically incredible save, keeping all three points safe for the Terriers to bring home.
