- Tyree Sanusi scored the first goal of the game
- Three second half goals were the difference

Huddersfield Town’s U19s were defeated 1-3 by Grimsby Town in the EFL Youth Alliance League game hosted at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex.

Despite taking the lead in the first half and being the strongest side large parts of the game, this afternoon’s fixture against Grimsby Town saw our youngsters defeated in the EFL Youth Alliance League due to three second half goals.

Tyree Sanusi opened the scoreline in the 14th minute of the game after a great through ball was sent into the box by Dan Vost. Sanusi ran onto the ball and slotted the ball past Will Mitchell and into the bottom corner to put Town in front.

Following on from this goal, our Young Terriers continued on the front foot as Alex Markham made a great block to deny Fope Deru’s cross to the far post. Then, Mitchell had to save Omari Mrisho’s cross into the box from the corner flag.

Grimsby Town had their first big chance of the game in the 28th minute as Billy Bradley shot from just outside the box, but Francis Hurl was there to make the save.

Vost stood strong in midfield, both attacking and defending, and carried the ball down the middle after he regained possession before he sent the ball through to Hazeem Bakre in the box in similar style to the first goal that was scored, but the forward’s attempt from just inside the box went wide.

Our visitors had two chances from Cameron Gardner before the half-time whistle. The first came from a shot outside the box but this went high and over the bar, whereas the second went just wide of Hurl’s net, which meant Town led going into the break.

The Mariners had the first chance of the second half from a free-kick, Henry Moore stepped up to take the set piece and delivered it into the box, but this was headed high over the bar by Louis Boyd.

Straight after this, Town got back into the game as Michael Parker drove down the left side with the ball and crossed it into the box to Bakre but he also headed this chance over the bar.

Grimsby equalised in the 53rd minute following a free kick in their attacking half, Moore put the ball in the back of the net after it was headed towards him by Markham.

As Town tried to regain their advantage, Mitchell made a great save for Grimsby and denied Bakre his goal. This was followed by a great chance from Mrisho from outside the box, but his shot took a deflection and was cleared by Grimsby’s defence.

The final 10 minutes of the game saw two goals from the Mariners to secure the three points in the EFL Youth Alliance League as their second goal was scored in the 80th minute from second half substitute Finley Fletcher. The third goal for our visitors was scored in the 87th minute as Edwin Essel placed the ball into the back of the net from close range and Town were defeated despite being in front at half time.
